Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Barranquilla S.A. continuing with the development of the investments’ plan for the year 2009, completed the construction of the first stage of the reefer yard, for the storage of refrigerated containers.
The storage capacity of the yard is 72 refrigerated containers that will be increased to 108 at the completion of the second stage of the project. The strategic location of this project the non – contamination of the cargo. This storage system differs from others by its system of electric modules, with three-phase outlets for 440 volts manufactured by the firm ESL Power Systems; these outlets are manufactured in stainless steel to be impervious to the weather. They have an interlocking system for the protection of the user and equipment during connection and disconnection.
To feed electric power to the yard, sub-station No 7 was reconditioned and refurbished, passing from 150 KVA to 1500 KVA, of which 1300 KVA shall be dedicated to the exclusive use of the refrigerated container yard. This substation has state – of - the – art equipment that meet current electrical regulations and enhance the capacity of maneuverability, reliability, and safety thereof. Amongst these, can (also) be mentioned medium voltage cells, a Pad Mount – type transformer with triple winding, volt distribution panels, cells for the correction of power factor at the same voltages and a fire – encapsulating system for the protection of operators, buildings and equipment surrounding the substation.
